Mining Journalism Award Expomin 2010



 

 

In the second version of the prize, Expomin will give the award in two categories: "National Mining Journalism" and "Regional Mining Journalism".

The high level of technology, its relationship with economic development of the region and the enormous cultural and political aspects involved, make the mission of informing on mining an activity that requires great expertise and responsibility.

That is why in the 2010 version, Expomin will replicate the awarding of mining journalism, which is given to professional of journalism, reporters, editors and directors, whose work represent a contribution to the dissemination and understanding of the sector and permanent actualization of knowledge.

With the BancoEstado award, which is given to the work of journalists of the economy sector, the Mining Journalism Award Expomin 2010 is the only event which highlights the work of the specialized journalism in Chile and the only award that is given to professionals who cover the mining sector.

Another objective of the prize is to promote the creation of journalistic work related to the mining sector, strengthen the understanding of mining issues and its economic and social environment, to reward professional work of journalists for their professionalism, research skills, collection and accurate delivery of data, analytical capacity, coverage and specialized interviews in the field of development of mining culture, providing important information for the life of their social group and for the development of national mining.

In the first version of the contest, that took place in the latest version of Expomin in 2008, the award was obtained by the journalist Pamela Zuñiga, for her outstanding work in the newspaper La Tercera. She received the award from the current Minister of Mining Santiago González.

 


Premio 2008

In this second version, the winners will receive the award at the inauguration ceremony of Expomin 2010, that will take place on 12 April 2010, receiving a total of U.S. $ 2,000 in each one of the two categories.

This time the jury will be composed by Alberto Salas, Presidente de Sonami, Francisco Costabal President of Consejo Minero, Horacio Undurraga President of Aprimin, Abraham Santibañez, President Association of Journalists of Chile, Erick Rojas, President of Economic Journalists Association (AIPEF), Maria Olivia Mönckeberg, National Journalism Award 2009 and professor of University of Chile and Andrés Azocar, Journalism Dean of Universidad Diego Portales.
