1er Workshop Internacional Expomin:

"Recycling and Recovery of Metals and Materials"

In order to promote recycling of metals and mining industry, review research, technologies, processes and industry practices in the area, on April 15 and April 16, the 1st International Workshop "Recycling and Recovery of Metals and Materials" will take pace at Espacio Riesco, as part of the International Congress Expomin 2010.

The event, which expects an attendance of 200 people, is focused in the needs for treatment, recycling and recovery metals and materials, and the requirements of new environmental laws and regulations, an emerging topic in Chile.

Among the highlights of the workshop, organized by FISA SA and AL Prospecta Consultores, the most important are the regulatory issues and market access, recovery of sub-products and environmental-management -in a economically sustainable frame-, effluents and wastes generated in concentrator plants, hydrometallurgical, smelting and refining and research in technological development of new processes.

Recycling could be defined as the raw materials obtained from wastes. Is performed at the prospect of depletion of natural resources and to eliminate waste efficiently. By recycling it is possible to return material to the production cycle, the waste can be reused as raw material for the manufacture of products required for men.

The workshop focuses on industrial practices for recycling and recovery of metals and materials such as: Mo, Zn, Ni, Pb, Pt, Pd, Rh, Ir, Ru, Sb, As, Ge, Bi, In, Se, Te, Ga, Fe, and SiO2.

The challenges that Latin American and Chilean mining will have to face in the next decade are varied, from providing strategic inputs, human resources and environmental management, energy, development of recycling and recovery of metals and materials, as well as inner aspects of technological mining activity.

These topics will be substantial part of the industry agenda in the coming years, because the can, in the medium and long term, affect their competitiveness. It is therefore essential to address them in conjunction with the organizations and people who make the decisions, suppliers and employees.

The Workshop is oriented to academics and researchers, technology centers and consultancy firms in general, suppliers and mining industry professionals.
