Chilean copper production registered a 4.9% growth in the whole of 2024, breaking the downward trend of the last two decades and after the results of Codelco and BHP’s Minera Escondida soared in December. According to the Chilean Copper Commission [Cochilco], the country’s total production registered an increase of 14.1% in the last month of the year, reaching 563,400 tons. Of the total, the state-owned copper producer contributed 172,700 tons, 21.6% more than in the same month of the previous year, and the Australian giant’s deposit contributed 133,600 tons, an increase of 51%. The annual production achieved by Chile was 5,507,000 million tons, a recovery considering the drop in the sector’s performance from 2018 to 2023, the year in which the total produced touched a two-decade low: 5,250,400 tons.
