Francisco Costabal, Vice president-South America, business development and administration Freeport McMoran Copper & Gold, South American Mining will be the successor to Iván Arriagada, CEO of Antofagasta PLC.

As president of the congress, Francisco will lead the discussion rounding themes and general matters in the event.

Long and distinguished trajectory

Francisco Costabal is a Commercial Engineer from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile with a diploma course on Economics Science and on Public Accountant from the Management and Economics School from the same university. He has an MBA on computer programming and informatics systems studies for mining industry from the University of Kentucky, and also a cooperative government program from the University of the Andes.

Francisco started his professional career at the Siderúrgica Huachipato from Compañia Minera del Pacifico and then in Santiago as Internal Auditor. From 1976 to 1979 worked at the Administration and Operations department for CODELCO CHILE – Andina division. In 1979 he became Controller for Sociedad Minera Pudahuel Ltda to then become its Financial Manager in 1986, its Sales and Financial Manager in 1988 of Pudahuel and La Cascada, and finally CEO of La Cascada and Lo Aguirre in 1991.

From 1992 to 2001 he worked as the Marketing, Administration and Financial Vice-president for Compañia Minera Cerro Colorado. In 2002 he became the CEO for the same company.

In 2004 he started working as the vice-president and CEO of Minera Spence S.A., a BHP Billiton Base Metals company. During this year he became its directory Manager.

In 2010 is part of the high manager of the South American team of Freeport-McMoram Americas, as the Vice-president of Development and Administration.

Francisco Costabal was the Directory President of the Chilean Mining Consul for five years, and nowadays is part of its Directory.
