On Thursday, October 9, Expomin 2025, which took place between April 22 and 26 at Espacio Riesco, received recognition from the Ministry of the Environment and its HuellaChile initiative, which certified the quantification and neutralization of the carbon footprint generated by the event. Organized by FISA, part of the GL events group, the fair brought together 83,498 visitors and 1,372 exhibiting companies.

At the ceremony, Francisco Sotomayor, CEO of GL events Chile, said: “We are very pleased with this recognition of quantification and neutralization by the Minister of the Environment, Maisa Rojas. Together with our strategic partners Anglo American and Colbún, we were able to neutralize the emissions of all the goods and services that were specific to the fair. We are very proud of this achievement, which is the first small step that FISA and GL events are taking towards a more sustainable world.”

In January of this year, Expomin sealed an alliance with Colbún to neutralize its carbon footprint by measuring greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the event’s processes: assembly, exhibition development, dismantling, and participation of exhibitors and attendees. This assessment was carried out by the organization Respect.

In addition, the fair implemented an elaborate Mobility Plan to discourage the use of private vehicles to reach the venue. This was made possible thanks to joint efforts with companies such as Uber, Cabify, RedBus, Metro de Santiago, Parque Arauco, Nuevo Pudahuel Airport, WeTransport, and Turistik.

The Expomin organization also installed solar generators in the parking lots, created a recycling plan, and encouraged individual carbon footprint registration, in which event participants declared the type of transportation they used to get there. All emissions from the event were offset by Colbún through carbon credits from its Hornitos hydroelectric plant in Los Andes, Valparaíso Region.

Sotomayor added that this recognition “is also a source of pride on a global level, especially given the importance of mining in the energy and ecological transition. Being the first event of this magnitude of world class in mining to achieve carbon neutrality is a great achievement for our organization.”
